Volunteers Lay Oyster Beds and Clean Drum Island in 2018

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2018, Wounded Nature-Working Veterans and a lot of volunteers earned their first drink of the day by cleaning debris from and laying an oyster bed on Drum Island, South Carolina’s shoreline.

They put out 638 bags of oyster shells which will be colonized with approximately 260,000 oysters and removed 32 cubic yards of debris. Participants included South Carolina DNR, South Carolina Ports Authority, Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA, Boeing, BOSCH, AMSCAN (Party City) and a large group of volunteers.

Everyone worked hard and most of the volunteers got wet and acquired some mud on their clothes and body. It rained a little and the winds picked up to add some ambiance to the event.

Once again, Bosch beat Boeing in the ticket pulling competition. Schelly Hower from Bosch took home the very prestigious 2018 Boeing – Bosch Ticket Pulling Trophy.
