Local Volunteers Support 2022 Spring Harbor Cleanup and Oyster Reef Build

On March 26, 2022, Wounded Nature-Working Veterans and local volunteers, including a large group from Boeing, partnered with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Oyster Program to place a record 1,000 bag oyster shell reef project on Drum Island in the Charleston Harbor.

Around 80 volunteers braved the cold and wind to assist in placing the oyster reef and conducted a large tidal marsh cleanup, removing a dumpster load of debris, an abandoned power boat, treated lumber, and seven old tires from the island.

We would like to thank our volunteers and partner organizations for supporting the 2022 Spring Harbor Cleanup and Oyster Reef Build. Their efforts combined to make a real environmental difference.

Our sincere thanks go to Boeing, the South Carolina Ports Authority, Charleston Water Taxi, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Special thanks for the Dumpster service provided by Dumpster Pro of Charleston, South Carolina, and raffle prizes provided by Simply Southern and MSC Mediterranean.
