For years, the water surrounding the Folly Beach Boat Ramp area has been a mooring nightmare with derelict boats moored and anchored everywhere. As the boats collected water and developed problems, they were just abandoned in place. A new mooring ordinance was enacted in October 2020 which resulted in some very positive environmental developments for this area. As a result, the boats that have been abandoned in this area are now being removed.
We want to especially thank Folly Beach Public Safety, Folly Beach Mayor, Land and Marine LLC, Sea Tow, and South Carolina DNR for their part in getting these two boats out. And a special mention to Spencer Wetmore who wrote the ordinance.
