A 44-foot sailboat hit a sandbar, flipped, and almost immediately started to break apart. Towboat US, Charleston headed up the salvage operation to remove the dangerous boat material from this popular swimming beach. They were supported by Helldivers and Wounded Nature–Working Veterans.
This cleanup in the surf near an inlet made the recovery both dangerous and difficult due to the strong currents and shifting sandbars in the area. It took several weeks to complete this boat removal operation. It was all about trying to center as much of the in-water time around a slack low tide. Also, the recovery efforts had to be delayed a few days due to high winds and waves.
