The boat named “Rusty” turned out to be quite crusty. It took four days of planned and technical work to raise and move her and the Minx, out of the Charleston anchorage area.
Leadership Charleston raised the money to help fund these removals. TowboatUS Charleston did the diving and salvage work. After finally getting her afloat Thomas and Greg stayed with her for the night to make sure no one sabotaged her and that she did not sink. Stevens Towing removed the boats from the water and Land and Marine will be preparing the ships for the landfill and taking them there. On the front end, Charleston Harbor Police and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources put in countless hours over the past year dealing with these boats and getting them cleared for disposal.
