Wounded Nature-Wounded Veterans have worked hard, with our partners, to rid this river of derelict boats, tires, treated wood, debris, and trash. For the most part, this river is clean from the ocean up to the Limehouse Bridge. We went to try to float a cabin cruiser that was sunk near the Maybank Highway bridge.
Unfortunately, we were unable to float this boat due to its damaged state. A crane and barge will have to be hired to remove what is now debris and a hazard. But the good news is that Charleston Harbor Police are applying for a federal grant to pay for the removal of this boat. We used the occasion to inventory the few remaining boats that may be derelict and become future storm debris.
Our partners who are responsible for this river being cleaned are:
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Charleston Harbor Police
Charleston Fire – Marine Operations
TowboatUS, Charleston
